'In the next 20 years the quality of life in Hertfordshire will be threatened as never before. Government demands for massive and unsustainable housing development in the south east will hit Hertfordshire hard and as executive member for environment my task will be to try and persuade the Government to take a much more even-handed view of development across the whole country,and drop this fixation with the south east.
Whatever level of development is eventually forced on Hertfordshire I will be working to ensure that our current problems with crowded trains and traffic congestion are fully taken into account or we could face gridlock.
I will also campaign against the undemocratic regional assembly taking planning decisions affecting local people and return those decisions to local accountable councillors. People may not always agree with our decision but at least our accountability is clear
