Robert represents the people of Nascot Park (Division 68)
Robert Gordon was first elected as County Councillor for the Nascot Park Division in 1989 and is currently Leader.
Robert has lived in the Division all his life and attended the Cassiobury and Watford Grammar Schools. His own children went to Nascot Wood and Watford Grammar. He also represents Nascot Ward on the Borough Council (of which he is Chairman) and is a member of Hertfordshire Police Authority.
Robert is widely respected as a hard-working and effective advocate for his community and uses his wide range of roles to help join-up relevant public services to deliver the best results for local residents.
A number of achievements over recent times include:
§ The appointment of a Herts County Council-funded Police Community Safety Officer to work exclusively in Nascot and Park supporting our Ward Constables
§ The decision to invest £60,000 in Watford Central Library (which is in his patch) to improve its facilities and to pilot Sunday opening
§ The current implementation of a Safer Routes to School scheme around the Nascot Wood Schools which will increase safety for children and their parents and will help calm traffic using Langley Road and Nascot Wood Road
§ The imminent re-engineering of the carriageway at the junction of Langley Road/Stratford Road, which has been the scene of a number of recent accidents
§ The decision by the County Council to plan to retain the current Watford School of Music building when the school moves to purpose-build facilities at Watford Grammar School for Boys
§ The imminent introduction of a traffic calming scheme in the Cassiobury Triangle area, including the use of time controlled bollards to restrict rat-running traffic in peak houses – a first for Hertfordshire
§ Getting the County Council to agree that the subsoil of the roads and footpaths of the Cassiobury Estate belong to the Residents’ Association – in the hope of helping residents resist further mobile ‘phone mast applications
§ Much needed refurbishment works at Cassiobury Infant School
§ A comprehensive traffic study and consultation about the wide range of issues affecting the Nascot Area. The views of residents and their impact are being analysed with a view to a proposed scheme being developed shortly
§ The re-alignment of the lanes for traffic leaving the Cassiobury Estate by Langley Road to achieve the left-turn and straight on/right-turn preferred by residents
§ The re-paving of part of Cassiobury Drive with paving slabs (rather than blacktop) following a public meeting with Herts Highways
§ Close working with the Watford Grammar Schools and other excellent local schools to protect their quality and character against attacks from the government and other political parties
Robert always has a full caseload of individual issues on which he is helping residents.
In addition to his work as a local councillor, Robert is a member of the County Council’s Cabinet, with responsibility for Education. In this influential role, Robert has played a part in the following:
§ The recognition by the Audit Commission of the County Council as an “Excellent” authority – under the Comprehensive Performance Assessment
§ The inspectors wrote that “a good senior management team and cabinet is in place, which is highly talented and wants to make a difference”
§ In addition to the overall judgement, the Council’s education service also received top ranking
§ The county council’s share of your council tax bill is below average for authorities with the same responsibilities
