BERNARD LLOYD – Harpenden North East

Bernard is the Chairman of the County Council

Bernard Lloyd has been a County Councillor for the last twelve years. Previously he has served as a District and as a Town Councillor. He represents the County Council on the Luton Airport Consultative Committee and is currently its Vice Chairman (the chairman is appointed by the airport). He is also Chairman of the County Council’s Health Scrutiny Committee. He was for four years a nominated member of the Police Authority where he was the lead member for human resources and represented the Authority at national level.

In Harpenden he served for many years on the Management Committee of the Harpenden Trust and is still Company Secretary and trustee of the Day Centre. He is also a trustee of Batford Memorial Hall and is delighted to see the transformation in the building and the extensive use of its facilities by the local community.

He is a qualified accountant and was awarded the honorary fellowship of a royal medical college in 1998 after holding senior appointments in two royal medical colleges over a period of several years. He has lived in Harpenden since 1972, is married and his three daughters, now married with children of their own, were educated in Harpenden Schools.

As a County Councillor Bernard has sought to meet the needs of the residents by:

advising on the best way to raise issues of concern e.g. Waveney Road planning application
personally taking up matters with wider implications e.g. pedestrian crossing in Station Road
assisting parents with school admission problems e.g. appeals and continuing interest applications
responding to complaints about highways e.g. lamp posts in Stewart Road and Lower Luton Road
supporting local schools e.g. Roundwood Park Sports Hall capital bid
campaigning for the restriction of night flights, against the over-expansion of Luton Airport and to save local Post Offices
encouraging the work of local community groups e.g. Batford Community Action Group

You can contact Bernard by telephone on 01582 761292 by fax 01582 467177
