RAY SHAKESPEARE-SMITH – Hitchin North
Ray has lived in the area for over twenty years, the last ten in Hitchin. He is married with children. Living on Bedford Road he is very aware of the issues affecting the quality of life locally including heavy, speeding traffic; roads and pavements; graffiti, litter and anti-social behaviour.
He has been a teacher for over thirty years, working in a challenging school in Luton for 24 years where he is Assistant Head.
A District Councillor for nine years he is currently Councillor for Walsworth.
Ray has always been involved in the local community. He is secretary of the Walsworth Festival Association, which has helped many local charities raise thousands of pounds. He is chairman of a local Scout group and a supervisory member of the Black Squirrel Credit Union.
“I like to get involved to make a contribution, and, with your support, hope to represent Hitchin North on the County Council”.
Ray Campaigns to Improve Hitchin’s Roads.
“I have spent the last year getting to know what the people of Hitchin are concerned about” said Ray, “and almost without exception, the answer I keep getting is roads, roads, and more roads”.
“Maintenance of Hertfordshire’s heavily used roads has been seriously under funded by central government over the last decade, but Hertfordshire County Council is determined to catch up and has made efficiency savings and applied for grants to enable it to spend additional money. I urge you to give me your support in this election” said Ray “so that I can make sure that Hitchin North gets its fair share of the funding available.”
